Anyone see a Vistaprints commercial lately? Lets take a look at the numbers shall we:
For the first half of its fiscal year:
- Total sales were $512.2 million, a 26.6% increase from $404.6 million for the first half of its prior fiscal year.
- Net income was $39.9 million
- Vistaprint acquired 2.9 million new customers in the quarter, compared with 2.2 million in the second quarter of 2011.
- Order volume at 8.3 million was a 27.7% increase from the 6.5 million orders in the prior year.
I first heard the term ‘Digital Darwinism’ in a college text book about three years ago, then I watched behemoth companies like Blockbuster and Borders go bankrupt and out of business. Digital Darwinism in action.
The concept is simple: Those companies that embrace new technologies and innovation will survive and thrive. Just look at Vistaprints and CustomInk for examples of companies in our industry, your competitors, using Internet marketing, and web-based technology to compete in a new way.
