Many of you probably catch up on the blog to read Marshall’s latest post on improving your shop’s operations, watch the latest video on a new InkSoft feature, or maybe even read a post by yours truly.

Today we’re going to talk about something a little different.

Fitness.

Introducing InkFit by InkSoft

What is InkFit?

InkFit is InkSoft’s fitness guide created by our very own John Cantu and Jesika Masters.

All you need is 30-minutes a day, 5-days a week, and a little bit of enthusiasm!

This 2-week fitness program is designed to be a quick, easy, and effective way to maintain fitness. Additionally, because this program only uses body weight exercises, it can be completed by everyone!

Why not get the whole shop together and do it as a group! Working out is always better when you’re doing it with other people.

Need a little extra motivation to get things started at your shop? Email me (Ryan@inksoft.com) pictures of your employees doing the workouts and we’ll feature you on our social pages!

Why Have Healthy Employees?

Having fit and healthy workers in your shop not only improves the lives of employees, but there are a number of tangible and intangible benefits that can impact your shop’s bottom line.

There has been a myriad of studies that show healthy people are in fact on average happier, and vice versa. Check out this article from Harvard Medical School if you want proof.

Given that relationship, what can we decipher about how healthy employees can impact your shop?

The answer is a lot!

Reduce Workplace Accidents

Ever have any accidents in your shop because one of your employees was physically at work, but not mentally there? Well, there’s an actual term for this: presenteeism and usually occurs when an employee shows up to work despite being sick.

Employees suffering from this are nearly 8x less effective and are the cause of many workplace accidents. Also, healthy employees are found to be much more focused and efficient on the job.

Increase Employee Productivity

What’s the #1 trait linked to productivity? Energy level. And you know what is highly correlated to energy level? Health. Thus healthy employees, are generally energetic, therefore more productive.

In fact, the Harvard School of Public health reports that healthy employees are 3.1x more productive than their unhealthy counterparts. Think of how much your shop’s output could improve by increased productivity.

Less Sick Days

No matter the size of your shop, sick days can cause a delay in your production capabilities.  That rush order that you promised your customer was going to be finished by the end of the day, might not get finished if an employee calls in sick that morning.

Look at the company SAS as an example. They offer their employees unlimited sick days. Yes, unlimited. They are so confident in their employee wellness program that they offer this. And you know what, it works! On average only 2 sick days are used by any employee per year!

Improved Morale

Workplace morale can be fostered in a number of ways, with much of it being derived from company culture. However, morale can be directly influenced by employee health as well. First, healthy employees generally feel more confident in themselves and their work, which may make them feel less threatened by managers.

Additionally, comradery amongst employees is improved with healthy employees. If workers no longer have to pick up the slack for that one unproductive worker, that pressure is lifted, and there’s no longer that lingering resentment amongst employees.

Lower Insurance & Workers Comp Expense

In general, healthy employees are interested in living a healthy lifestyle, resulting in them making smart decisions about their health. This ultimately will contribute to fewer doctors visits, and lower health insurance rates for those employees. Were you aware that just having a wellness program established could reduce your premiums?

Healthy employees can also reduce what is spent on workers compensation. Here’s a number for you. Overweight employees cost their employers a staggering $73.1 billion a year and file twice as many claims. Wow.

Key Takeaways

There are many more benefits to having healthy employees. At the end of the day, your employees want to be happy and healthy. A survey by Workforce Magazine found that of a group of 361 companies and 3,822 employees, 90% considered health and wellness important.

InkFit isn’t designed to turn you into an NFL linebacker. Rather it was created to be a fun, easy, team oriented wellness program to help improve health over here at InkSoft. However, given InkSoft’s continual effort to improve all aspects of your shop we thought it’d be worth sharing with all of you!
